Personal project · Next.js, designed and built with AI

A Malayalam-learning app I designed and built for my husband, who speaks Bengali. Built for an audience of one, so quality and personal touches mattered more than scale.

The thinking

I designed it around how he would actually learn, not around a generic language-course structure. Sounds first: the seven Malayalam phonemes Bengali doesn't have, each explained as a direct contrast to a Bengali sound he already knows. Then words: around 124 day-to-day entries grouped by category, every one with Bengali and Hindi translations, verbs broken into tenses. A separate surface holds 27 famous Malayalam movie dialogues, broken down line by line with the scene clips.

What I built

A full Next.js app: an MDX-based content architecture for the words, sounds, and phrases, a "mark as learnt" system with a progress meter, a sentence translator, and a recording studio where he can capture his own pronunciation so the app plays his voice instead of text-to-speech. No database, all MDX files and static audio.

Where it stands

Still growing as I add words and phrases. It is the clearest example of me designing and building a real, working product end to end with AI.
